Dr Joshi, born & brought up in a subsistence farming family in Baitadi is an Agricultural Scientist with 30 years of national & international work experience on leading & managing agriculture research & development. His professional work experience was shaped and enriched from his work with Nepal government, Lumle Agricultural Centre-a semi-autonomous organisation, national NGO-LIBIRD, Bangor University, Wales, UK & International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) an inter-governmental organization with Headquarters in Mexico. He led and managed agriculture R&D in Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan with short exposures to East African Countries. Dr Joshi was instrumental in developing and popularising simple participatory approaches to crop improvement, participatory plant breeding, participatory varietal selection, fast-tracking varietal deployment using Informal Research & Development. He excelled in seed system strengthening and seed enterprise development. He contributed to the development & release of 10 varieties of cereals, five varieties of grain legumes, one oil seed rape all released in Nepal. While few of the rice varieties he developed were also adopted in Bangladesh and India. He has long experience of conducting national & international training and capacity building, convening conferences, workshops, national and international events. He is experienced on programme evaluation, outcome assessment/impact assessment of agriculture research for development projects in Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. He supervised theses research of couple of MSc & PhD students in Nepal. He also serves as a reviewer for a number of international journals. He has published 29 research papers in leading international journals, 7 book chapters, 25 International Conference papers, 4 policy papers, 4 discussion papers >180 technical articles (including co-authored and in Nepali language). He earned his M Phil in Plant Breeding & Genetics at Cambridge University and PhD in Plant Biology at the University of Wales, Bangor, Wales, UK.

Anju Pant Joshi


Ms Anju Pant has long experience of governance, policy formulation, organizational management, financial management, monitoring and evaluation, in civil society, cooperatives & private sector organisations. She was involved in a number of monitoring and evaluation studies. She is experienced on the issues of women & children in Nepal & is active in social service focusing women & children. She has excellent understanding of social discrimination against women in the society & she provided inputs to the preparation of fourth and fifth combined report of convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women (CEDAW). She earned her B.A. from the University of Lucknow, India & M.A. (Sociology) from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
